CARIFORUM-EU Competition Law and Policy Training Seminar in Grenada
ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Friday, May 06, 2016: The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, Planning, Cooperatives and International Business, together with the Forum of the Caribbean Group of African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States (CARIFORUM) with funding from under the European Union (EU) are hosting a training seminar on Competition Law and Policy on Thursday, 26 May, 2016, at the Grenada National Stadium, Players Level I.
This introductory Level I training programme is designed to raise knowledge and awareness of Competition Law and Policy, and build institutional capacity within Grenada in the context of the implementation of the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). The target stakeholders include private sector organisations (chamber of commerce, cooperative groups and associations, firms), professional bodies (medical, legal, etc), sector regulators (utilities, financial services), and public sector owned companies, media organisations, consumer organisations and academia.
This training forms part of a 10th European Development Fund (EDF) project for capacity building within CARIFORUM, in support of the implementation of commitments given under the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement.
The training will be delivered by a competition expert from the CARICOM Competition Commission (CCC) selected by the consulting firm Equinoccio, which has been contracted to execute the 10th EDF project for capacity building within Member States of CARIFORUM.
The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, Planning, Cooperatives and International Business has a mandate to promote, maintain and encourage fair competition and to prohibit the prevention, restriction or distortion of competition. The CCC has a similar mandate under Chapter 8 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas (RTC) for competition with cross-border effects within the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, Planning, Cooperatives and International Business welcomes the collaboration between CARIFORUM and the EU to deliver this training initiative, and looks forward to future partnerships in the area of competition law and policy.
